Essie winter 2015 collection review

Essie winter 2015 collection review 0

"Introducing the essie winter 2015 collection.  Temperatures are dropping.  Snow is falling.  Ski chic adventures await.  Now is the perfect time to make a dash for the mountains where beautiful vistas, clear skies and a winter wonderland will give you a taste for life at the top.  A mountain holiday is the ideal moment to showcase your elevated style; and no apres-ski ensemble is complete without the perfect manicure.

Whether you're feeling luxe or low-key, essie's new collection of six wintery shades are sure to melt hearts- and the winter's chill.  Showcasing seductive reds and crisp pastels with an iconic platinum and fiery black, this collection is perfect for me-time or ski-time" according to the official press release.

The Essie Winter 2015 collection is comprised of:

Apres-Chic: a metallic chrome silver.  Applied smoothly and evenly without any brush streaks at all.  I am so impressed.  Highly pigmented.  Provided amazing coverage with just a single coat! I am absolutely obsessed with this silver.

Shall we Chalet?: a deep crimson red creme.  Has slight blue undertones.

Peak Show: a very light ballet slipper soft pink creme.

Virgin Snow: a light lilac creme.

Altitude Attitude: a brighter red creme, with slight pink undertones.

Haute Tub: a blackened amethyst purple complete with fine purple shimmer. Very highly pigmented.  Provided excellent coverage with just one coat.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

I really enjoyed this collection.   I think it is very fitting for the upcoming holiday season, and will be the perfect offerings as the cooler crisp weather comes our way.

I find the shades to be very sophisticated, yet still maintaining a playful side.  I still can't get over how wonderful the formula is on Apres-chic.  Usually metallic silver polishes can be extremely streaky, but this wasn't at all.  Also, I appreciate that Essie continuously goes out of their comfort zone and introduces new innovative shades to their collection like the gorgeous shimmering Haute Tub.

My personal favorites from this colleciton are: Haute Tub and Apres- chic.

Essie's Winter 2015 collection retails for $8.50 per 0.46 fl oz (13.5 mL) bottle, and is available now.

Dermelect ME Holiday Collection for Winter 2015

Dermelect ME Holiday Collection for Winter 2015 0

"Dermelect Cosmeceuticals is thrilled to introduce its first "ME" Holiday Collection for Winter 2015.  Featuring four season-inspired hues that combine sophistication and fun with a dose of merriment to holiday nails.  Hold me, Thrill "ME", Kiss "ME", and Sleigh "ME", combine the joyful spirit of the holiday season with refined elegance.  Utilizing Dermelect's signature keratin protein peptide to help strengthen nails and extend length of a manicure, this lavish collection of colors steer clear from the hazy shades of winter and create a sexy and coveted manicure that is both festive and beautfiul.

Celebrity nail tech Elle developed this limited edition collection exclusively for Dermelect.  Elle combined jewel tones with glimmering neutrals to encapsulate the season's jubilance with sophistication.  "This collection's colors bring out the holiday spirit and look glamorous on all skin tones," says Elle, Dermelect Color Curator.  "I love how the shades add a little sparkle to nails, especially for year end festivities," according to the official press release.

Key Ingredient: Keratin Protein Peptide- Hydrolyzed Keratin extracted from New Zealan Sheep's wool that helps strengthen the nails.

  • Strengthens weak, brittle nails
  • Restores nail flexibility
  • Helps nails resist chipping and splitting
  • Provides long-lasting, high shine and bold color
  • Water and detergent resistant
  • Protects against UV rays
  • 5 free
  • Cruelty free, no animal testing ever.

The four new Dermelect shades comprising the Holiday 2015 collection include:

Sleigh "ME": a multi-dimensional glistening white glitter. (arctic shimmer)

Kiss "ME": a deep dark crimson red shimmer. (velvet crimson)

Thrill "ME": a dark forest green pearl.  (frosted evergreen)

Hold "ME": a black base with holographic multi fine glitter. (sparkled midnight noir)

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

I absolutely LOVE this collection.  I think the four colors are perfect, and I wouldn't change a thing.  The formulas were very liquid smooth, and didn't give me any issues whatsoever; I didn't experience any streakiness which usually occurs with metallic finishes like Kiss "ME" and Thrill "ME" have.  I think all of the colors show a lot of depth and dimension.  In particular, I love how prismatic the multi flecks of Hold "ME" and Sleigh "ME" shine throughout.

I highly recommend you pick up all four limited edition shades before its too late.  It's so hard for me to pick only one favorite, but if I absolutely have to choose, I would say Sleigh "ME".

Dermelect's "ME" Holiday Nail Collection, available in November 2015, retails for $14 per .4 fl oz (11 mL) bottle.

  • Aspen (ZP814) - a sparkling artic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck.
  • Sue (ZP815) - a soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck.
  • Amal (ZP816) – a classic crimson red with a ruby red pearl fleck.

To extend wear, apply one coat of the Zoya Matte Velvet Topcoat over your favorite matte shades after polish is completely dry.

Zoya MATTEVELVET Colors, 0.5 oz. -  $10 (US) ea.

Zoya MATTEVELVET Color Sampler, 6 – 0.5 oz. bottles -  $60 (US)

Available in top salons, spas and on

* **BIG5FREE, TOXIN FREE: Zoya Nail Polish Formula contains no formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, dibutyl phthalate, toluene or camphor." according to the official press release.

The 6 shades comprising the Zoya MatteVelvet collection include:

  • Iris: a beautiful deep magenta purple.
  • Amal: a crimson ruby red.
  • Honor: an emerald green.
  • Sue: a glistening beige pale gold.
  • Yves: a shimmering midnight blue.
  • Aspen: a glittery snow white.

I am personally obsessed with this collection.  I am so glad that Zoya decided to bring back the matte finish this holiday season.  This collection is right on trend.  Matte nails are very huge this fall/winter, and this collection is the perfect and easiest way to achieve the trendy look.

The finish is quite unique.  It's not quite completely matte, but it's also not shiny like conventional polishes, it rather falls somewhere in between.  There is definitely a satin/velvet-look to the finish that in my opinion is quite rare on the market.

I didn't experience any issues with any of the colors.  They all painted on smoothly and effortlessly, without any streaking.  Plus I feel that these matte shades dry quicker than conventional polishes, another major plus.

My favorites from the collection include: Yves, Sue, and Honor.

Cuccio: Nudetrals Winter 2015 collection

Cuccio: Nudetrals Winter 2015 collection 0

"Slip into something more natural looking with the new Nudetrals Colour Collection- a sensual array of nude shades to compliment all skin types.  Expose your inner fashionista while adding sparkle to your natural beauty with fine mica elements that will amplify the bare essentials of the holiday season.  Revealing, soft and subtly erotic this collection is the perfect way to undress from the dark shades of the Fall season and help you uncover your passion and love of colour" according to the press release.

The Winter 2015 Nudetrals collection from Cuccio includes the following shades:

Nude-a-Tude: a creamy mauve. [medium tan with nude shimmer and pink base]

Skin to Skin: a light pink nude cream. [light tan with nude shimmer]

Fair Game: a solid white with a pink iridescent pearly shimmer running through it. [opal white]

Olive You: a light greenish gold with tiny iridescent flecks in it. [gray with gold shimmer and green tone]

Sun Kissed: a super fine glittery copper. [medium tan with gold shimmer]

Blush Hour: a super fine glittery rose. [salmon pink with gold shimmer]

Oh Naturale: a light beige cream. [taupe with silver shimmer]

Grey's Anatomy: a super fine glittery gray. [gray with gold shimmer and blue tone]

(all swatches shown here are two coats, cured each for 30 seconds in an LED lamp).

I really love this entire collection. You really can't go wrong with various shades that compliment skin tones.  Cuccio went above and beyond doing simple creamy nudes, and included many super fine glittery shades in the collection I also adore. I believe it's fine mica that gives off their glowing allure, so its a bit different from your conventional glitters.  Even the creamy flesh tones in this collection feature a microscopic shimmer in them, that you can really only notice if you look super closely.  Nonetheless, it adds a brilliant shine to the shades.

As far as the formula is concerned, I didn't have any issues with any of the colors, and I also didn't experience any difficulties such as unevenness or brushstrokes.

My personal favorites from the collection include: Fair Game, Sun Kissed, and Olive You

Morgan Taylor Midnight Masquerade Winter 2014 Collection Swatches

Morgan Taylor Midnight Masquerade Winter 2014 Collection Swatches 0

"This winter, dress your nails with an alluring personality by donning Morgan Taylor's Midnight Masquerade Winter 2014 color collection, which features six all-new shades inspired by the mystique of an after- hours affair" according to the press release.

Typically Winter collections tend to be very gold, silver, and glitter heavy.  But the girls behind their namesake line of polishes chose to not follow the typical color conventions, which I have huge respect for.  According to the girls, Taylor Daniel and Morgan Haile, "The color palette of winter is typically muted, dark shades, so we wanted to create something a little different this year."

The Midnight Masquerade Winter 2014 Collection includes:

My Kind Of Ball Gown: a deep rose pink creme.  Incredibly pigmented; provided solid coverage in 1 coat.

Flirting With The Phantom: a dusty mauve creme.  Also highly pigmented, covered completely in a single coat.

Vixen in a Mask: a shimmering blackened berry.

Don't Rain on My Masquerade: a brown/pink copper glitter.  It is Not rose gold, if that's what your thinking.  I found it to be densely packed with glitter.  I had complete coverage in two coats.  Removed easily, which is always a huge + for me when it comes to stubborn glitter removal.

Jest-er Kidding: ultra fine silver glitter with larger multi-color glitter pieces.  It is very fun and festive, while staying sophisticated and office appropriate.  I didn't think I would like this color initially, but it really grew on me.

The Big Reveal: a dark mysterious teal shimmer.  My personal favorite in this collection.  It is stunning in person.  It also didn't stain the nail plate upon removal, which is fantastic.

(all swatches shown here are two coats.)

I really enjoyed this collection.  I found it to be very refreshing and a nice departure from the typical winter collections I review.  I think there is nice breath and variety, literally offering something for everyone at any age.

I found the quality of the polishes to be excellent.  They all applied very smoothly and evenly, giving me zero brush strokes or problems.  I also found the polishes to be highly pigmented, which I love.  I highly suggest you pick up some Morgan Taylor Lacquers if you haven't tried them yet! Their colors are usually always on point, stylish, and on trend;  customers will be requesting them in no time.

Morgan Taylor Lacquers are 5 free.  The suggested retail price is $8.50 per .5 fl oz (15 mL) bottle.

Essie winter 2014 Swatches + review

Today I've got the latest collection from Essie to share with you all.  Winter 2014- Jiggle Hi, Jiggle Low, six new shades to help keep the Winter Blues at bay.

According to the press release, "Tis the season for celebrating- so indulge with dazzling shades that set off holidays looks to perfection.  Whether you're stepping out on the red carpet at the gala of the season or enjoying a candellit diner for two...  This collection is the perfect accessory to the myriad of chic holiday styles this season, says Essie Weingarten.  Whether you are working a chic jumpsuit or a sophisticated gown, celebrate in style during this fashionable season with a festive essie manicure."

The Winter 2014 Collection includes:

Back in the Limo: a semi-sheer petal pink with peach undertones.  Didn't provide enough coverage for my liking in two coats.  I used three coats for complete coverage.

Bump up the Pumps: bright coral creme, with pink undertones. Highly pigmented.  Got great coverage in a single coat.

Double Breasted Jacket: a bright red with coral pink undertones.  Incredibly pigmented.  a "One Coat Wonder"!

Jump in my jumpsuit: a rich ruby crimson red.  Highly pigmented.

Jiggle hi, Jiggle Low: a glistening Gilver.  Not exactly silver, but not quite gold, falls somewhere in between the two.  Had excellent coverage, especially for a metallic shimmer of this nature. My personal favorite in this collection!

Tuck in my Tux: a semi-sheer milky ivory.  Needed three coats for full opacity.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, unless stated otherwise.)

Before I address the hues that comprise this collection, I would like to discuss the formula.  I was reading on other nail blogs their reviews of this collection and a lot of bloggers were experiencing difficulty with the formulas.  They claimed they were super sheer, brush strokey, or poorly pigmented.  I personally do not know what these bloggers are talking about.  Except for the two semi-sheer shades in this collection, which usually require three coats for full opacity, I didn't experience any issues with application or with the formulas.  I found most of the shades to be highly pigmented, and was super surprised at how smoothly the metallic shimmer, Jiggle hi jiggle low, painted on!

I will say that as a whole the collection doesn't necessarily remind me of winter.  Now that's not to say this isn't a good collection, I just think some of the shades, like Back in the Limo, Double Breasted Coat, or Bump up the Pumps would have fared better in a Spring or Summer launch.  Nevertheless, this is overall a nice break from the conventional glitter and Christmas tree sparkly shades that most companies comprise their winter collection with.

My personal pics include: Jump in my Jumpsuit, Jiggle hi jiggle low, and Tuck it in my Tux.

Essie's Winter 2014 Collection retails for $8.50 per .46 fl oz bottle, and is available now.

Zoya wishes winter/holiday 2014 swatches and review

Zoya wishes winter/holiday 2014 swatches and review 0

Hello everyone.  Happy Hump Day, you've survived and made it to the middle of the week, only a few more days till the weekend.

In the meantime, I've got a great new collection to share with you all from Zoya- Wishes 2014 Winter/Holiday.  Six new winter inspired shades, three of which are Magical Pixie Dusts (matte textured glitter) and three regular nail polishes.

The Wishes Winter/Holiday Collection includes:

Prim: a shimmering periwinkle.  Provided excellent coverage in one coat, and was very highly pigmented.

Haven: a shimmering deep majestic plum with magenta undertones.  I also found this shade to be highly pigmented, and had great coverage in a single coat.

Willa: a classic black creme.  Unfortunately there isn't anything too special to report regarding this shade.  Most people already own a black creme or two in their collection, so this would then be a pass.

And now onto the three Magical Pixie Dust polishes.

Nori: a medium blue with various sized holographic silver glitter particles.  This reads more of a summer shade to me than it does winter, but it's still pretty nonetheless.  For a winter blue I picture a paler icier blue.

Thea: a medium plum purple with silver holographic glitter particles.

Imogen: a black with silver holographic glitter particles.

(all swatches shown here are two coats.)

Overall I enjoyed this collection.  I like the fact that Zoya keeps things fresh by regularly introducing new shades of their Magical Pixie Dust line.  I personally love these matte texture glitters because you don't use them with a base or top coat, and they dry relatively quickly.  Whenever a little girl, say around the age of 5, asks me to paint her nails, I always make her choose from the Pixie Dust collection, and they always Love it.  The sparkle and shine is always truly magical.

I think the Wishes Collection as a whole has a little bit of something for everyone.  It is a nice representation of the season, as we transition from fall to the chillier winter months.  I also find this collection to be a nice departure from the conventional Holiday collections most nail companies come out with, featuring red, gold, and silver glitters.

My personal favorites from this collection include: Imogen, Prim, and Haven.

Each bottle retails for $9-$10 per .5 fl oz, and is available now.
