Essie Spring 2017 Review

Essie Spring 2017 Review 0

"Don't think. Just get in the car and drive.  Go with your most colorful instincts and take a spur of the moment trip down the coast.  Inspired by sun-filled beach days and spectacular sunsets of Baja, California, the essie spring 2017 collection features warm inviting hues that create the perfect mood for a springtime filled with fashionable adventures.

With Baja in mind, essie Global Color Designer Rebecca Minkoff helped inspire the landscape of colors of the spring 2017 collection- the sapphire waves, the sandy shores and the brilliant, creamy pink sunsets over the cactus-filled desert.  These stunning, vivid colors provide the perfect palette for spring and are the idyllic backdrop for a road trip with your best friends.  So grab your girls and hit your favorite route- this colorful essie road trip is calling your name.

Sparked by a fuchsia b'aha moment and fueled by the perfect plum playlist a la the designated dj, the ride of your life just won't stop- except maybe for a cutie in the car next to you, excuse me, sur.  The vibrant green avocado of on the roadie drives 'em wild, every time.  Backseat besties can't help but laugh out loud when they get punchy in guava pink.  Azure sapphire is all the wave, making a splash in an oceanic hue of blue that's the perfect way to  express yourself in signature essie chic." according to the official press release.

The Essie Spring 2017 collection includes the following shades-

Designated DJ: a deep purple plum creme.

Escuse me, Sur: a fun flamingo pink creme.

On the Roadie: a grass green creme.

Backseat Besties: a carnation pink creme.

All the Wave: a rich deep blue cream. A 1 coat wonder!

B'aha Moment: a raspberry pink cream. A 1 coat wonder!

(all shades shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural sunlight).

This collection is comprised of 6 fun creme shades.  I found them to be highly pigmented, slightly more so than usual, with a couple of them being one coat wonders.  I think the shades are very fun and wearable, with some of the bolder colors people might reserve for their pedicures.

I didn't experience any issues what so ever with the formula.  They all painted on smoothly and beautifully with ease.

The collection is out now and retails for $9 each.

"There is a reason why the fashion-savvy flock to the number one street style destination in the world: Tokyo. Japan's electric capital boasts taste, flair and an uncanny aptitude for mixing fashion metaphors. If you're lucky enough to be there in the fall, you get the added picturesque pleasure of watching the autumn leaves change color against the magnificent gray backdrop of Mount Fuji in the distance. Get caught in a whirlwind of spectacular fall color fit for a Geisha, introducing essie fall 2016 collection.

From Ginza to Harajuku, it's impossible not to find yourself entranced in the mix of Tokyo's colorful surroundings! Inspired by essie Glorbal Color Designer, Rebecca Minkoff's, time in Tokyo, the essie fall 2016 collection captures the city's wild street style, electric cuisine and riot of autumnal colors.

The six shade palette of mesmerizing hues channels the changing fall foliage along with the modern and traditional sides of Tokyo's bustling city. Ranging from intense deeps to serene pastels, the essie fall 2016 collection bottles up the perfect balance of trendsetting color and classic looks.

now and zen all you need is a night on the town to maki me happy, tell the girls to kimono on over and go go geisha tonight. Tokyo is the city to forget playing koi- udon know me yet, but after a night of karaoke you'll never forget me." according to the official press release.

The essie fall 2016 collection is comprised of the following creamy colors-

Kimono Over: a deep purple grape cream. [inviting damson plum]

Playing Koi: a spiced pumpkin cream. A mix of burnt orange and brown. [flirtatious orange rust]

Go go Geisha: a dusty light pink rose cream. [antique blossom pink]

This is a very beautiful collection.  And I think some of the most creative, clever, and quirky names Essie has yet to come out with. Only one of the colors I am not a huge fan of, Playing Koi, but that doesn't mean others won't like it.

My personal favorites are: Kimono Over, Now and Zen, and Udon Know Me

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals ‘Me’ Unearthed Collection review

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals ‘Me’ Unearthed Collection review 0

"Bringing to life a palette of modern earth tones that evoke the rich, diverse hues found in nature, Dermelect Cosmeceuticals' brand new 'ME' 2016 Unearthed Collection features six vibrant shades that marry the beauty of Mother Nature with the opulence of high fashion runway trends.

"The Unearthed Collection was inspired by the colors of the season, which are drawn from various elements of nature, including lava, copper, soil and bright foliage," said Elle, Celebrity Nail Tech and Dermelect Color Curator. "Our palette is meant to awaken a new appreciation for nature's unparalleled beauty by delivering modern earth tones that are equally varied in color and texture yet come together to create unexpected synergy."

Beyond importing gorgeous, long-lasting color on nails and toes, Dermelect's Unearthed Collection gives back to the earth it draws inspiration from by partnering with the non-profit Trees for the Future (trees.org). The brand has committed to plant one, new tree for every polish sold from the collection through April 2017 with a minimum donation of 10,000 trees planted.  Trees for the Future improves the livelihoods of impoverished farmers by revitalizing degraded lands and planting over 128 million trees over the world to help people break out of poverty and address the global environment.

"Trees for the Future is thrilled to partner with Dermelect," said John Leary, Executive Director of Trees for the Future. "We applaud Dermelect for their commitment to making this planet a more beautiful place." according to the official press release.

The Unearthed Collection is comprised of the following shades-

Diggin' You: a brown cream, with slight mauve/purple undertones. [creme burnt umber]

To the Core: a chrome orangey/copper. [russet copper]

Verdure: a dark mysterious jungle green cream. [lush hunter green]

What A Gem: a light pearlized pink. [shimmery pale quartz]

Nobody's Fool: a shiny yellow gold with very yellow undertones. [chrome marigold]

Magmatized: a deep cranberry crimson red cream. [fiery red]

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

After reading the story behind the collection I was not only quite moved, but I had a new found respect for the colors.  Everything suddenly made complete sense and told a story.  At first glance I felt the shades were highly autumnal and told a story, but after reading about the inspiration behind the collection and the charity aspect I was pleasantly pleased and surprised.

The colors are very gorgeous and take on a life of their own.  Some of the shades I think perhaps are more desirable than others, but needles to say, that doesn't mean someone out there might have a huge love and penchant for copper polish.

I found all the colors painted on smoothly and evenly, including Nobody's Fool, which I anticipated to be quite streaky; the nature of the beast.

My personal favorites include: Diggin' You and What A Gem.

The Polishes retail for $14 each [11 ml or .4 fl oz], or $29 as a set, and are available now on http://dermelect.com/

Honestly this is probably my most favorite Deborah Lippmann collection yet! The shades are all gorgeous for the fall, and are definitely colors clients will request.  Each painted on smoothly, evenly, and effortlessly.  I didn't experience any issues whatsoever.

I am really digging this new and improved formula from Deborah, and the brush couldn't make me happier; it makes my job so much easier.

Essie Summer 2016 Collection review

Essie Summer 2016 Collection review 0

"Travel feeds the soul. Adventure excited the senses.  For thrilling sights in an array of shades, Antigua is the place to just be. From St. John's to English Harbor, the island's colorful towns, gorgeous craft makers, tribal text-styles and brilliant food excite the senses and are ripe for the ideal inspiration for the essie summer 2016 collection.

Summertime is the moment to get inspired by adventurous color, and there is no better place to defy convention and go bold, than the sun-soaked shores of Antigua! Leave the guidebook behind and strike out on a style itinerary all your own. No matter where you go, there's an essie Summer 2016 shade to reflect your fashion ambitions." according to the official press release.

The Essie Summer 2016 Collection includes the following shades-

Hiking Heels: a bright bold cherry red cream. [scorching hot lava red]

Viva Antigua!: a turquoise blue with fine shimmer running through it. [iridescent crystalline turquoise]

Coconut Cove: a vanilla white cream. [sweet cream white]

Loot the Booty: a royal blue with fine blue and purple shimmer in it. [pave sapphire blue]

Tribal Text-Styles: a midnight sparkling gunmetal. [black gold and crushed onyx]

Berried Treasure: a bright red/magenta cream. [bright ruby berry]

(all swatches shown here are two coats and are taken outdoors in natural sunlight).

What I am most impressed and in love with this collection is the formula, how highly well pigmented the shades were. Almost all of the colors in this collection provided almost complete coverage in a single coat, it was truly remarkable. I used two coats as usual just for good measure.

I also really love the sparkly nature of many of the colors, perfect for summer pedicures.

And even if your not head over heels in love with this entire collection, trust me and at least invest in a couple of the colors; the formula is honestly that good!

My personal favorites are: Tirbal Text-Styles and Loot the Booty

Each bottle is 13.5 ml (0.46 fl oz).

Essie's Summer 2016 Collection retails at $9 per bottle and will be available June 2016

Cuccio Colour Cocktails Summer 2016 Collection Review

Cuccio Colour Cocktails Summer 2016 Collection Review 0

"Raise your glass and toast to the new 2016 Cuccio Colour Cocktail Collection- a magnificent mixology or 8 soft and subtle shades that embody the true essence of Summer. Lets drink to your unique sense of style and passion for fashion with the trendsetting palette of luscious lacquers that help turn any mundane moment into your personal HAPPY HOUR!" according to the official ad release.

The 8 new shades comprising the Summer 2016 Cocktail Collection include-

Strawberry Colada: a light glittery peony pink.

White Russian: a creamy milky white.

Pink Lady: a carnation pink cream.

Pink Champagne: a light ballet slipper pink cream.

Mojito: a light lemon yellow cream.

Bloody Mary: a see thru tomato red.

Long Island: a pumpkin orange cream.

Blue Hawaiian: a robin's egg blue cream.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

This latest collection from Cuccio is a very fun and festive themed one, in my opinion one of the best themed collections yet from them! I love that all of the shades are named after cocktails and that for the most part really embody the spirit and essence of the name reflected in the shade.

I think this is a very wearable color palette offering lots of colors I see clients requesting.

I found most of the shades to be highly pigmented, and they all painted on smoothly and evenly providing full coverage in two coats.

My personal favorites are: Strawberry Colada and Long Island.

Dazzle Dry Review

Dazzle Dry Review 0

"Dazzle Dry is a Lacquer SYSTEM that delivers what no ordinary nail polish can. The 'Original Gel Alternative' provides Gel-like longevity in wear with the ease of polish.  NO artificial UV/LED lamp or natural UV light curing is needed, nails air-dry Rock Hard in 5 minutes.  It's Vegan, Non-Yellowing and Nutrient-infused to strengthen and protect.  So, get ready to experience the performance of a Gel, almost as quickly and easily as you can say 'polish' and yes, it's actually good for nails too!" according to the company.

But what makes Dazzle Dry different from conventional nail polishes?  It's a system, that has to be used together in order to function and give the results promised, it was developed bny a Dr., Dr. Vivian Valenty, and its 6 free: no toluene, no DBP, no formaldehyde, no camphor, no formaldehyde resin, no nitrocellulose.

There is a process and explicit instructions on applying this product correctly.  Initially I didn't follow the rules and had less than stellar results, but after following the instructions carefully the product was a dream to work with.

Nail Prep is step #1.  This is used to properly cleanse and balance the PH level of the nail.  Even if you weren't using this nail system I would highly recommend using this product with your other nail lacquers as well.  It provides for a solid foundation on which you will paint.

Then apply two coats of Base Coat, letting each coat dry before applying the next coat.

Apply two coats of color lacquer, the first coat painting very thin, allowing it to dry before applying a thicker more generous second coat.

Followed by the Top Coat, and you are good to go within 5 minutes.

The colors I tried include:

Midnight Express: a black licorice cream. Very highly pigmented.

Touch of Love: a light ballet slipper pink cream.

Rapid Red: a traditional cherry red cream, with slight blue undertones. Very highly pigmented.

Blue Blood: a duo-chrome teal, purple, grey, silver.  Color shifts depending on the light reflection.

Booties: a royal blue shimmer with micro fine purple/pink glitter in it. Very highly pigmented.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

First and foremost I was super impressed with how highly pigmented majority of the polishes were; even in one coat I got amazing coverage.  Secondly, I liked how quickly the polish dried, literally in 5 minutes, as opposed to 15 with conventional nail polishes.

I will say that application might take a little longer just because you have to apply two coats of the Base Coat, and you have to let each coat dry before applying the next, but overall, I think with the downtime of the polish setting and drying, you get an overall positive experience.

My personal favorite color I tried was Blue Blood

I highly recommend you give this system a try, especially if you or your clients are looking for a good alternative to gel.

Deborah Lippmann Pretty in Pink Review

Deborah Lippmann Pretty in Pink Review 0

"On the heels of deborah lippmann's widely successful Undressed (6 piece Shades of Nude set), comes this tender bouquet of pink hues to delight the senses.  From soft and subtle to bold and bright, this 6-piece collection has every shade of pink to match every occasion.  Each fashion- size lacquer within Pretty in Pink is opaque and rich in texture, set within a romantic rose design box.

Get like Molly Ringwald with these "Pretty in Pink" shades: Think Pink!, a full coverage ballet pink creme, Pink Cashmere, a full coverage dusty pink creme, Tickle me Pink, a full coverage posy pink creme, In the Pink, a full coverage orchid pink creme, Pink Cadillac, a full coverage carnation pink creme, and Kissin' Pink, a full coverage hot pink creme." according to the official press release.

The Deborah Lippmann Pretty in Pink collection is comprised of the following cream shades-

Think Pink!: a light ballet slipper pink creme.

Pink Cashmere: a dusty rose light pink creme.

Tickle me Pink: a strawberry milkshake pink creme.

In the Pink: a deep bubblegum pink creme.

Pink Cadillac: a bold medium slightly dusty pink creme.

Kissin' Pink: a bright magenta pink creme. Very highly pigmented, almost a One Coat Wonder!

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

Personally I am not a huge fan of pinks, however I absolutely Love and adore this kit.  I think these are all highly wearable and desirable colors that clients would request, and I also think this set makes the most perfect present for someone, whether its a birthday, anniversary, holiday, house warming, or just to take to someone's home who invited you for dinner.

I didn't experience any issues with the formulas, no streaking or anything of the nature.  I received full and complete coverage within two coats of each shade.  I found the colors to all be really highly pigmented, which I love.

Get this kit as a gift for someone, or for yourself, either way you can't go wrong.

My personal favorites are: Pink Cashmere and Kissin' Pink.

SS 2016 Cuccio Colour Cruise Collection Review

SS 2016 Cuccio Colour Cruise Collection Review 0

"All hands on deck as we set sail on the maiden voyage of the SS Cuccio Colour Cruise Collection. A nautical inspired collection of modern Spring shades guaranteed to help you navigate the changing tides of current styles and fashion in 2016. Ride this wave of glowing, illuminating shades on what we like to call the Love Boat of Colour!" according to the official ad.

The SS Cuccio Colour Cruise Collection consists of the following shades:

Pier Pressure: a soft pale pink nude creme.

Shore Thing: light icy blue frost with gold shimmer running through it.

On Sail: a carnation pink creme.

Got the Navy Blues: a deep royal blue creme. Had great coverage with even one coat.

I Want Moor: a soft peachy champagne pearl.  Had amazing coverage, especially for a polish with this type of finish.

Message in a Bottle: a pale lilac with pink shimmer running through it.

All Decked Out: a coral pink creme.

All Tied Up: a cornflower blue creme.  Incredibly pigmented.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

This is a wonderful collection for the spring time, there is something offered here for everyone.  I really appreciate the funny and quirky names.  In the past, Cuccio's names never really struck a major chord with me, but perhaps they have hired someone new in their naming division ;).

I was really impressed with the formulas on these polishes.  Many of the colors were very highly saturated with pigment, meaning you get great coverage with even one coat.  I didn't experience any issues with streaking or brushstrokes.

My personal favorites in this collection include: All Tied Up, Shore Thing, and Message in a Bottle.

Morgan Taylor: A Very Nauti-cal Girl Summer 2016 Collection Review

Morgan Taylor: A Very Nauti-cal Girl Summer 2016 Collection Review 0

"Ahoy! Set sail with the A Very Nauti-cal Girl collection from Morgan Taylor Lacquer for May through July 2016.  Inspired by summer sailing, this four-piece collection navigates its way through the sun-filled season with a blazing red, deep sea blue, sunset magenta and sailor white.  This collection's cool shades boast a classic twist to keep your nails maritime ready until fall!

"This collection was developed for the beach babe who is the captain of her own style and enjoys expressing her personality through her nails," says brand namesakes Morgan Haile and Taylor Daniel.  "Each shade will help her cruise through the warmer serasons!" according to the official press release.

A Very Nauti-cal Girl collection is comprised of the following shades:

Girls Love Buoys: a bold and bright magenta cream.  A One Coat Wonder! Incredibly well pigmented. Sort of has a neon quality to it regarding the fact that it sort of drys to a matte finish. [magenta creme]

Catch My Drift: a royal blue cream with violet undertones. [cobalt creme]

My Yacht, My Rules!: an off white taupe with a shimmer running through it. [white frost]

Wish Upon A Starboard: a bright fire engine true red cream. [cherry creme]

(all swatches shown here are two coats, without a top coat, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

I have to be totally honest and candid with you all, initially I wasn't super impressed with the collection.  I found it sort of basic and unnecessary.  However, once I played around with it I started to change my mind.

I found most of the shades to be well pigmented, Girls Love Buoys in particular- which covered completely in a single coat which always makes me supremely happy. The rest of the colors built up nicely with two coats. There was no issues with streaking or pooling.

My two personal favorites and recommendations from this collection are: Girls Love Buoys and My Yacht, My Rules!

A Very Nauti-cal Girl 2016 summer drop-in collection from Morgan Taylor will be available for a limited time beginning May 2016 at fine salons nationwide and at MorganTaylorLacquer.com. The suggested retail price is $9 each (15 mL 0.5 fl oz) and $14.95 for the 4-piece mini pack (not shown here)

Essie Resort 2016 Collection Review

Essie Resort 2016 Collection Review 0

"Opulent silk. Saturated hues. Dazzling sights. essie's new resort 2016 collection is influenced by the magnificent fashion, culture, and sheer beauty of India.  From the Gem Palace of Jaipur to vibrant saris, India's incredible mix of colors and tradition is the ultimate inspiration for this mesmerizing collection.

The four new resort shades feature an exhilarating palette of colors seen throughout India's landscape. From the vibrant market stalls and golden desert sands, to the azure waters, the country's unique contrast of tradition and modernism treasures offer splendid inspiration.  Sparkling like a mirrored jewel, essie's resort 2016 collection is sure to be the trip of a lifetime!" according to the official press release.

The essie resort 2016 collection includes the following shades:

Delhi Dance: a bright and bold bubble gum pink creme. [bright sari pink]

Nama-stay the night: a bold medium blue creme. [divine goa blue]

Going guru: a light mint green creme. [meditative mint lime]

Taj-ma-haul: an apricot orange creme. [spicy marigold apricot]

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

I have a personal soft spot for essie's resort collections.  Every year I get so excited for it to come out.  I like this collection, but I am not head over heels in love; the colors just don't do it for me personally.  They don't remind me of India, but then again, I have never been.  But upon first glance, India is not at all what comes to mind. Had I not read the press release I would of had zero idea there was an Indian influence.

As far as the polishes are concerned, the formula was excellent and they were all very pigmented. I didn't experience any issues when painting, there was zero brushstrokes in sight.

I have to admit though the names are very fun.  Essie doesn't always have the funniest or most clever names that some other brands have, but I feel they're definitely trying to improve that.

My personal favorites are Nama-stay the night and Going guru

The essie resort 2016 collection will be available in May, and retails for $8.50 per 0.46 fl oz (13.5 mL) bottle.

For more info on essie, check them out online: http://www.essie.com/

The brush! I can't stress enough how pleasurable it is to paint with, perfection! This new formula just paints on so smoothly, easily, and evenly, it's literally fool proof.  It can make anyone a fabulous manicurist.

I was also really impressed with how highly pigmented the colors were, two of which could get away with a single coat.

If I had to pick my favorites to recommend they'd have to go to the one coat wonders- My Boyfriend's Back and Splish Splash

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural sunlight).

I think this is a beautiful collection to welcome the coming spring season.  The colors are all definitely wearable, and I really like the fact they're inspired by flowers, which couldn't be more apropos for Spring! 😉

I was most impressed by the formula.  A lot of the shades, about half of them, were very highly pigmented and provided excellent coverage in even a single coat.  I love a well pigmented polish.

I found the shades all painted on smoothly and evenly, without causing any brush strokes or issues of any kind.

My personal favorites from the collection include: Rose-y Cheeks, I Or-chid You Not, and Prim-rose and Proper.

The Botanical Awakenings Collection will be available for a limited time at select salons nationwide and at MorganTaylorLacquer.com. The suggested retail price for the lacquers are $8.50 each.

Introducing Holographic gel from Color Club

Introducing Holographic gel from Color Club 0

I hope everyone has had a great week so far.

I am so beyond excited to introduce a revolutionary product from Color Club- Holographic Gel Polish.  No other brands in the US market have made a holographic gel polish, and I am so grateful Color Club has done so, and man is it perfection.

The Color Club Holographic's I have to share with you here include-

Harp On It: a holographic silver.

Eternal Beauty: a holographic purple.

Blue Heaven: a holographic icy blue.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, cured each for 30 seconds in an LED light, and are taken outdoors in natural sunlight).

With the introduction of their gel polish line, Color Club has done a few things differently.  All of their gel polishes are packaged in a duo pack, meaning you get both the gel polish color and its comparable nail lacquer, so for customers who want matching toes this is perfect! Also, Color Club paints the cap on the gel polish bottles, so not only do you know exactly what color is inside the bottle, but you can locate the color very easily, especially if you store it in a drawer.

I am absolutely OBSESSED with these.  They are so beyond cool and very easy to use.  I was under the impression I would have to wait a little bit to let the gel polish settle before curing it in order to achieve a strong holographic effect, but that was not the case.  After painting it on, I was able to cure it essentially right away and still had an amazing holographic effect.

I was very impressed with the quality.  The gel polish applied very smoothly and evenly, without any brush strokes, or any problems.

The Color Club Holographic duo packs retail for $29.95 each, and contain 15 mL (0.5 fl oz) bottles of both the gel polish and nail lacquer.

I highly recommend you give these a try! Your customers will go bananas for them! I promise 🙂
