Name: Britney Tokyo
Salon: email to book appointments (firstname.lastname@example.org). Will also be at ES Nail taking clients for a limited time on Melrose Ave, starting next month.
How did you first get into nails?
I was around 18 and had graduated from high school. I wasn't working, just having fun all of the time. So my mom got me a book for nail artists as motivation.
How Long have you been doing nails?
Almost 10 years professionally, but as a little girl I always painted my nails with markers and pens in school.
What inspires you and your designs?
Fashion, of course. My fiance always inspires me [he's a designer for Joyrich], he always tells me whats new and trendy. Museums, window shopping, internet surfing... Vintage shopping.
What are your favorite clothing companies?
Joyrich, Moschino, and Chanel.
What's the most "out there." non-traditional material you've incorporated into a manicure?
Fur fabric. Also nail piercings with crazy stuff, like big charms (in the shape of a cell phone for instance) hanging off them.
Describe a favorite manicure you've performed?
I love 3-D junk food nails, like hamburgers.
What's a favorite trick you've learned?
I like using nail foils, because it's easy and looks cute; also tie dye design.
What's the most unique request you've received from a client?
For a baby shower a girl wanted 3-D toy babies on all 10 nails, I thought it was super odd. Also, for a bachelorette party a girl wanted 3-D penis.
What do you hope for in the future regarding nails?
Healthier products without chemicals. It's hard for manicurists to work with so much chemicals all of the time, we have to protect ourselves. Sometimes I worry about my health. I always wear a face mask and safety glasses when I work... I look like a house painter!
