Essie Fall 2016 Collection Review

Essie Fall 2016 Collection Review 0

"There is a reason why the fashion-savvy flock to the number one street style destination in the world: Tokyo. Japan's electric capital boasts taste, flair and an uncanny aptitude for mixing fashion metaphors. If you're lucky enough to be there in the fall, you get the added picturesque pleasure of watching the autumn leaves change color against the magnificent gray backdrop of Mount Fuji in the distance. Get caught in a whirlwind of spectacular fall color fit for a Geisha, introducing essie fall 2016 collection.

From Ginza to Harajuku, it's impossible not to find yourself entranced in the mix of Tokyo's colorful surroundings! Inspired by essie Glorbal Color Designer, Rebecca Minkoff's, time in Tokyo, the essie fall 2016 collection captures the city's wild street style, electric cuisine and riot of autumnal colors.

The six shade palette of mesmerizing hues channels the changing fall foliage along with the modern and traditional sides of Tokyo's bustling city. Ranging from intense deeps to serene pastels, the essie fall 2016 collection bottles up the perfect balance of trendsetting color and classic looks.

now and zen all you need is a night on the town to maki me happy, tell the girls to kimono on over and go go geisha tonight. Tokyo is the city to forget playing koi- udon know me yet, but after a night of karaoke you'll never forget me." according to the official press release.

The essie fall 2016 collection is comprised of the following creamy colors-

Kimono Over: a deep purple grape cream. [inviting damson plum]

Playing Koi: a spiced pumpkin cream. A mix of burnt orange and brown. [flirtatious orange rust]

Go go Geisha: a dusty light pink rose cream. [antique blossom pink]

Now & Zen: an elephant gray cream. [timeless sage gray]

Maki me Happy: a deep raspberry cream.  Requires three coats for full opacity. [crimson-wrapped berry]

Udon Know Me: a washed light blue cream, with slight gray undertones. [mysterious stony blue]

(all swatches are 2 coats, unless stated otherwise, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

This is a very beautiful collection.  And I think some of the most creative, clever, and quirky names Essie has yet to come out with. Only one of the colors I am not a huge fan of, Playing Koi, but that doesn't mean others won't like it.

My personal favorites are: Kimono Over, Now and Zen, and Udon Know Me

essie's fall 2016 collection retails at $9 per 0.46 fl oz (13.5 mL) and is available now.

Honestly this is probably my most favorite Deborah Lippmann collection yet! The formula alone is so beyond remarkable you have to get it.  I have never seen an entire collection before that was all 1 Coat Wonders, including the glittery shade All Night Long. The shades are all gorgeous for the fall, and are definitely colors clients will request.  Each painted on smoothly, evenly, and effortlessly.  I didn't experience any issues whatsoever.

I am really digging this new and improved formula from Deborah, and the brush couldn't make me happier; it makes my job so much easier.

The revolutionary patent-pending swirl stem brush with a tapered cut ensures perfect color application. Its meticulous design hugs the curvature of the nail. Now you can master the runway with instant gel-like shine and avant essie color." according to the official press release.

the 16 essie gel couture shades I have to share with you here include-

Rock the Runway: a bright firey cherry red cream.  [fierce scarlet red]

2. Sit me in the Front Row: a deep magenta cream.  [distinguished juicy raspberry]

3. Haute to Trot: a playful peony pink cream. [handcrafted lavender rose]

4. Model Citizen: a medium magenta cream.  [flawless light deep pink]

5. On the List: a coral peach cream.  [prolific tangerine coral]

6. Beauty Nap: a sage green cream.  [dreamy gray-moss]

7. Labels Only: a medium lavender with a pink shimmer running through it.  [lavish frosted sapphire]

8. Find me on a Man-nequin: a blue purple hybrid cream.  [magnetic ultramarine blue]

9. Twill Seeker: a medium grayed out purple with an iridescent green shimmer running through it.  [enchanting pewter with sage luster]

10. Model Clicks: a rich oxblood cream.  [fashionable aubergine wine]

11. Gala-Vanting: a deep burgundy cream.  [jovial marooned red]

12. Surrounded by Studs: a dark navy blue cream with slate gray undertones.   [bejeweled blue]

13. Caviar Bar: an indigo navy blue cream.  [magnificent deep navy]

14. Pre-show Jitters: an off white cream with slight pink undertones. [alabaster white]

15. Make the Cut: a pearlized taupe beige cream.  It's so gorgeous and super unique in my opinion  [pearlized nude greige]

16. Fairy Tailor: a semi sheer pink nude. You can see visible nail line through it.  [sheer nude pink]

(all swatches shown here are 2 coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

I am absolutely in LOVE with this latest line from Essie.  When I was first exposed to it back in April at the Nail Pro Pasadena trade show I was super impressed- the bottle, the packaging, the bristles, the brush, the pigmentation, almost everything about it.

I don't think I have ever used a polish that painted on more smoothly, evenly, or as easily as this does.  The contoured brush bristles make painting near the cuticle area a dream come true.  The revolutionary swirl design on the brush helps prevent polish dripage, which can be a huge bummer not to mention a complete mess.

The fact that the polish dries faster than conventional polishes is a huge plus not only for me as a tech, but more importantly for my clients who impatiently wait for their nails to dry.  And if I am working on a set, this product line is an absolute dream come true.

The color offerings are perfect too.  Not too many colors, but just enough to please everyone's taste and preferences.

The top coat is smooth, and pleasantly plump.

One of my biggest concerns was storage.  I was worried that due to the beautiful shape of the bottles, I would have issues storing the polishes on my nail polish wall racks.  Need not fear.  The bottles fit perfectly, and aligned very beautifully at an elegant angle.

Some of my personal favorites include: Make the Cut, Caviar Bar, and Rock the Runway

essie's gel couture nail polish retails at $11.50 per bottle and will be available at http://www.essie.com/gel-couture, fine salons and beauty destinations nationwide.

Deborah Lippmann Summer 2016 Collection Review

Deborah Lippmann Summer 2016 Collection Review 0

"Happy Days are here to stay with NEW shades from deborah lippmann that will never go out of style.  These pigmented colors transport you back to retro Fifties era so you can look hip to the jive whether you're cruising in a hot rod or chilling at the drive-in. The dual-patented Gel Lab Pro formula infused with 10 exclusive ingredients helps to deliver HEALTH, WEAR and SHINE, providing the high gloss and cushiony plumped look similar to a gel, without nail damage. Swel!

HEALTH: Evening Primrose, Keratin, Biotin, Gren Tea Extrqact, Aucoumea, Rice Protein

WEAR: Bamboo, Nonychosine F

SHINE: Nylon, Carnauba Wax

Accompanied by a new advanced contour brush, its rounded tip follows the nail shape and 320 bristles spread evenly for an effortless, smooth finish.

As a seasoned nail pro and trendsetter, Deborah works side by side with fashion's elite and was inspired to create these show stopping shades to complement summer's cheerful and bright style aesthetic." according to the official press release.

The Deborah Lippmann Summer 2016 Happy Days Collection includes the following-

Beauty School Dropout: a bubblegum pink cream.

My Boyfriend's Back: a periwinkle blue cream. A 1 Coat Wonder!

Happy Days: a bold orangy coral with a very fine subtle shimmer.

Splish Splash: a turquoise blue cream, with green undertones. A 1 Coat Wonder!

**Great Balls of Fire: Sephora exclusive. Strawberry red creme.  Not shown here.

(all swatches shown here a two coats, taken outdoors in natural sunlight)

I am so pleased and delighted with this collection.  I think it's totally on point for Summer, and the colors are all great.  Not only that but I am absolutely obsessed with the new Gel Lab Pro formula and the brush! The brush! I can't stress enough how pleasurable it is to paint with, perfection! This new formula just paints on so smoothly, easily, and evenly, it's literally fool proof.  It can make anyone a fabulous manicurist.

I was also really impressed with how highly pigmented the colors were, two of which could get away with a single coat.

If I had to pick my favorites to recommend they'd have to go to the one coat wonders- My Boyfriend's Back and Splish Splash

Do make sure to check out the brief video below featuring Deborah herself describing the inspiration behind each shade.

The Summer 2016 Collection will be available May 2016 SRP: $20 each (.50 fl oz 15 mL) on http://deborahlippmann.com/ and at Barneys New York, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Sephora stores nationwide.

Street Beat Summer 2016 Collection Review

Street Beat Summer 2016 Collection Review 0

"Turn up your boom box this summer, it's time to start feelin' the beat on the street! Introducing Gelish and Morgan Taylor's bold and eye-catching array of bright colors for the summer 2016- the Street Beat collection.  The collection includes six new shades: from a striking coral, to a powerful pink pearl, and a fierce teal, to a wild style yellow-orange creme.

"We were inspired by the artistic expression of street art and hip hop for this collection," says CEO and founder of Gelish and Morgan Taylor, Danny Haile. "Each bright shade resonates with inspiration and expressiveness. From energetic, upbeat pinks to a must-have pastel lilac, every shade is trendy from the runway to the streets." according to the official press release.

The Street Beats Summer 2016 collection includes:

B-girl Style: a neon bubble gum pink creme. [neon pink pearl]

Street Cred-ible: a bright nacho cheese orange creme. Took 3 coats for full opacity. [orange/yellow creme]

Cou-tour the Streets: a light pink creme with slight lilac undertones. [lilac creme]

Tag, You're It: a bold neon magenta shimmer. [fuchsia pink pearl]

Give me a Break-dance: a more green leaning teal with slight shimmer running through it. Took 3 coats for full opacity. [teal pearl]

Hip Hot Coral: a bright coral/pink hybrid shimmer. Took 3 coats for full opacity. [hot coral pearl]

(all swatches shown here are 2 coats of the Gelish Minis, unless stated otherwise, cured for 30 seconds each in an LED lamp, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

What I love and enjoyed most about this collection is how fun, bold, and bright the colors all are.  What I didn't love about this collection is the lack of pigmentation.  As gorgeous as the colors are, half of them required 3 coats in order to become fully opaque.  The main downside to three coats is the time required for application.  If your clients aren't in a hurry, or if you don't have clients booked up back-to-back than it shouldn't be an issue.

My personal favorites include: Give me a Breal-dance, Tag, You're it, and Street Cred-ible.

The Street Beat Collection from Gelish MINI and Morgan Taylor will be available for a limited time in May 2016.  Gelish MINI is available at Sally Beauty Supply stores and http://sallybeautysupply.com/ for $13.99 per bottle and Morgan Taylor is available at https://www.morgantaylorlacquer.com/ for $9 per bottle.

Loose Stones NO More- Hello Apres Nail !

Loose Stones NO More- Hello Apres Nail ! 0

If your anything like me, you cringe and absolutely hate it when stones and embellishments fall off nails you've spent hours creating.  Nothing is worse than receiving a call from a client claiming her crystals are popping off. :/

I have searched and searched, high and low, and have physically tried virtually every product on the market, and nothing has worked for me.  Finally at long last I found a solution, and my nail art game is definitely stronger than ever and on point! Introducing Apres Nail.  A relatively small company that makes 3 products, all designed to keep your stones, embellishments, and nail art work perfectly intact.

I was first introduced to Apres Nail back in the beginning of February at the ISSE show.

I am absolutely in love with this line, and hopefully you will jump on board as well.

The three products Apres Nail offers are-

Diamond Gel: "replace your acrylic glue with our Apres Diamond Gel- the strongest gel adhesive on the market.  Rhinestones, crystals, jewels, studs, etc- you name it.  Our Diamond Gel is strong enough to support any and all shape and sizes of nail charm for an incredibly superior hold.  No more fear of your nail charms falling off prematurely.  Formulated to provide a long-lasting bond for polish and nail charms.  Diamond Gel can be used with any gel polish and charms to complete a beautiful nail art design." according to their website.

It's all absolutely true.  Believe the hype.  I have tried Gorilla Glue, which dries with an ugly white residue. I've used Akzentz Bling On and Resin Gel from Nail Labo, both with less than stellar results.  This stuff however truly works.  Its literally like liquid gold to me.  Its very easy to work with also.  It's not nearly as thick as other bling adhesive gels on the market, and yet it works so much better than they do. If you don't believe me, just take a look at my photos. Literally one month, 4 full weeks, and I use my hands a ton each and every day, and work on clients and with tons of chemicals, and not a single stone or embellishment came off.

Diamond Gel retails for $16.95  0.5 fl oz (15 mL) pot.

Structure Gel: "thick viscosity clear gel fortifies/repairs weak and damaged nails. For multifunctional use, seal and smooth nail charm designs with Apres Structure Gel for a reinforced surface to ensure long-lasting wear.  Structure Gel can be used with any base gel polish to strengthen the nail for optimal color gel application."

I absolutely love this easy to use gel to secure my 3-D embellishments, nail studs, glitters, and mylar pieces.  Client's use their hands a lot in their daily lives, and nothing is worse than getting a nail charm caught on a knitted sweater, or in your hair.  The Structure Gel absolutely helps avoid that problem.  I paint a layer on top of my embellishments, cure, and I am good to go.

Structure Gel retails for $14.95 0.5 fl oz (15 mL) pot.

Top GelCoat: "our revolutuonary Apres Top Gelcoat is guaranteed to outlast and outshine any other brand on the market.  Specifically formulated and heavily tested...your answer to long-lasting finish that is compatible with any brand of color gel polish. Easy and smooth application with no bubbling... without the need of wiping down any tacky residue! Prevents peeling, chipping, or discoloration.. for a result that can last over 4 weeks!"

I have tried so many different gel top coats out there and I have always had different problems.  Some are too thin and run into the cuticles, some are way too thick, others go bad quickly and need to be thrown out, and almost all gel top coats inevitable turn white shades to a rather yellow tinge within a week or so.  Not with this stuff.  A great consistency, not runny at all, immense shine that literally lasted for a complete month, which is when I finally decided to change up my nails, and absolutely no discoloration. I am so pleased to say that I have finally found the perfect top coat I use as the finishing touch to all of my gel manicures.

Apres Top Gelcoat retails for $12 0.5 fl oz (15 mL) bottle.

As will all of my posts, I am absolutely not paid to promote or endorse a product.  I truly believe in this stuff because I know first hand how well it works.  I have personally been testing it, on both myself and my clients, and we're all happy campers.

If you can only start off with one product for now, I'd suggest the Diamond Gel.  Client's love their Swaorovski Crystals, but definitely hate it when they fall off.  Say goodbye to those days forever 🙂 !!

Morgan Taylor Botanical Awakenings Spring 2016 Collection Review

Morgan Taylor Botanical Awakenings Spring 2016 Collection Review 0

"Spring into the season with fresh fingertips! Introducing a breathtaking arrangement of six stunning shades for Morgan Taylor’s Spring 2016 collection, Botanical Awakenings. With a lively, light coral, classic taupe, radiant hot red and more, this bouquet of pink shades is budding with personality fit for any flower child.

“We were inspired by soft pinks, rich reds and creamy neutrals for this romantic and sophisticated collection,” says CEO and Founder of Morgan Taylor, Danny Haile. “Each shade is reminiscent of a budding and chic garden. From irresistible, whimsical pinks to warm crème shades, every polish is the perfect spring accessory.”

The Botanical Awakenings Collection is comprised of the following colors-

Rose-y Cheeks: a bright and bold pink with a subtle iridescent shimmer running through it. [Bubblegum pink pearl]

I Or-chid You Not: a greige (grey/beige) cream.  [Dark taupe crème]

Warm Up the Car-nation: a bright raspberry magenta shimmer. Highly pigmented. [Bright magenta pearl]

Don’t Pansy Around: a hot pink magenta cream. Highly pigmented.  [Hot pink crème]

What’s Your Poinsettia?: a dark cranberry red shimmer. Also highly pigmented [Crimson red pearl]

Prim-rose and Proper: a light creamy nude. [Light taupe crème]

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural sunlight).

I think this is a beautiful collection to welcome the coming spring season.  The colors are all definitely wearable, and I really like the fact they're inspired by flowers, which couldn't be more apropos for Spring! 😉

I was most impressed by the formula.  A lot of the shades, about half of them, were very highly pigmented and provided excellent coverage in even a single coat.  I love a well pigmented polish.

I found the shades all painted on smoothly and evenly, without causing any brush strokes or issues of any kind.

My personal favorites from the collection include: Rose-y Cheeks, I Or-chid You Not, and Prim-rose and Proper.

The Botanical Awakenings Collection will be available for a limited time at select salons nationwide and at MorganTaylorLacquer.com. The suggested retail price for the lacquers are $8.50 each.

Jin Soon Polish Review

Jin Soon Polish Review 0

I am very excited to introduce to my readers JINSoon.  For those who aren't familiar, Jin Soon Choi is a Korean born popular celebrity manicurist based in New York City.  Her eponomous polish line launched in 2012 to rave reviews, and now I see why.

The shades featured here include-

Auspicious: a light grey creme, with a very subtle lavender undertone.

Nostalgia: a perfect creamy nude.

Nocturne: a blackened gunmetal in a metallic finish.

Chamonix: a black that dries to a textured "leather-like" finish.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are photographed outdoors in natural sunlight).

I am absolutely in LOVE with this line, and there are a few reasons why.

First off, I love the packaging. It's very unique and different from whats out there on the market.  It's sleek and elegant, but most importantly it's not bulky; this is super important for me, for I'm always performing manicures on sets, and when polishes are packaged in too large of bottles I can't travel with as many.  But these small bad boys fit beautifully in both my travel kit, and in my hand when using them to paint.

I found formula to be quite great and highly pigmented. I really liked the brush.  I found it very easy to work with.  Each of the shades I tried painted on smoothly, effortlessly, evenly, and with zero brush strokes.  The polishes all happen to be 5 free as well (formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin, and camphor), which is also a great thing- the less toxic chemicals the better.

If you haven't yet tried out this brand I highly recommend you do so.

JINSoon nail polishes retail for $18 per 0.37 fl oz (11 mL) bottle.

For more information on JINSoon or to purchase online, check them out here: http://www.jinsoon.com/

CHANEL Sunrise Trip 683 Review

CHANEL Sunrise Trip 683 Review 0

Leave it to the folks at CHANEL to introduce a single color for the Spring Summer 2016 season! Only they could do this, and boy am I ever obsessed.

The notion that companies introduce upwards of 18 colors in a single collection I find silly and unnecessary.  How many shades of bright cherry red creme do we honestly need? CHANEL typically introduces 3 shades in a season's collection, however, they're starting off this year with a bang by focusing on a single color- Sunrise Trip #683.

Sunrise Trip is quite magical and a chameleon of sorts.  It is a purple/blue hybrid that sort of changes depending on the light's reflection.  It is a jelly finish, which I personally Love, and is quite unique for CHANEL polish.  Typically CHANEL polish comes in a creme or pearlized finish, but this glass-like jelly formula I absolutely adore.  It painted on smoothly and evenly, with absolutely no visible brush strokes or streaking.

Very highly pigmented, in a single coat there is tremendous coverage.  With two coats you have complete coverage.

I love the shade, I find it highly unique, and greatly recommend you pick it up before its too late.

Le Vernis CHANEL in Sunrise Trip 683 is available now, and retails for $28 per 0.4 fl oz (13 ml) bottle.

ISSE 2016

ISSE 2016 0

I had a great time this past weekend attending the Intentional Salon and Spa expo in Long Beach.  Most nail brands were there representing their latest offerings.  Some, however didn’t make it this year, including CND and Essie.

Some of the most popular nail booths include: Vetro, Nail Labo, apres Nail, and NOQ.

Check out my pics in the gallery below.

Zoya Whispers Review

Zoya Whispers Review 0

"SIX NEW TRANSITIONAL SHADES -ZOYA WHISPERS
Experience color serenity with this muted and tranquil palette of transitional nail neutrals.
· Cala - ZP823: A soft nude with a kiss of warmth that will flatter most skin tones.

· April - ZP824: A light, rosy toned neutral that is a modern take on blush.

· Eastyn - ZP825: A subtle grayed grape that is more interesting than mauve and
gives a modern alternative that is ever so wearable.

· Misty - ZP827: An easy to wear taupe that is an updated version of gray with
just a touch of green to make it daring.

· Ireland - ZP826: A uniquely wearable green that is muted enough to make it subtle
yet still interesting. This green is well balanced between blue & yellow so it’s
flattering on all skin tones.

· Lake - ZP828: A softened blue that gives the effect of serene water with just a
hint of vibrancy to preserve its luminosity." according to the official press release.

The Zoya Whispers collection is comprised of the following colors:

Misty: a greige creme with slight light brown undertones.

Ireland: a soft light green creme.Provided amazing coverage.  Highly pigmented.

April: a creamy nude with rose undertones. Had great coverage with just one coat.

Cala: a beige nude creme.

Lake: a dusty light blue creme with slight grey undertones.

Eastyn: a dusty light lavender creme with grey undertones.  Highly pigmented.  Provided excellent coverage in a single coat.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

What a pretty collection.  I honestly think this is the perfect transitional collection of colors to take us away from the metallics and glitters we were doing last year, but before we go with the bold bright and neon hues of summer to come.  I'm really impressed with the formula and how highly pigmented some of the colors were.  They all painted on smoothly and effortlessly, giving me zero problems.

My personal favorites are: Eastyn, Lake, and April.

The colors retail for $9 per 0.5 fl oz (15 mL) bottle, and are available now.

Introducing Phuse Implements

Introducing Phuse Implements 0

"Made from professional grade materials, the Phuse implement collection is all about the fine details.  Hang nail? Not having it- trim it.  Straight eyelashes? Curl it! Blemish, pimple, blackhead? Ugh.  Remove it! Head to toe tools that will take you from eek to awe," according to the official press release.

I've got two Phuse's implements to share with you all.

Push It Cuticle Pusher: "With the Phuse Push It cuticle pusher you can push away unsightly overgrown cuticles on both your hands and feet.  Constructed from professional grade stainless steel the Push It cuticle pusher will not rust and will offer a lifetime of cuticle beauty."

I love the size of this tool.  It's shorter in length than conventional cuticle pushers I'm used to, but I like that; it still gets the job done [it measures approximately 4.5" from end to end].  The body of the pusher contains a slightly ridged design which allows for an excellent grip.  There are two different ends to the pusher, one end is squared, the other is slightly rounded, allowing you to customize your manicure/pedicure to you or your client's needs.  The suggested retail price is $13.

Trim It Cuticle Nippers: "The Phuse Trim It cuticle nippers are equipped with a heavy-duty box joint, double spring tension and ultra-sharp tip closure that trim with professional preciseness.  Constructed from professional Japanese stainless steel, the Trim It cuticle nippers can be cleaned and sanitized without rusting, so start trimming."

It's a new year.  What better way to start off the new year than with a brand new set of nippers?! These are slightly smaller than nippers I am accustomed to, but let me tell you, don't let the diminutive size fool you.  These bad boys are super sharp, and hang nails physically don't stand a chance.  One can't own too many cuticle nippers, especially if you're a busy nail tech.  These nippers feature a black rubber non slip coating which allows for an excellent grip.  The suggested retail price is $25.

For more information on Phuse, and the other implements they make, check them out online: http://www.phusebeauty.com/

Essie Retro Revival 2016 Collection Review

Essie Retro Revival 2016 Collection Review 0

"For essie's fabulous 35th anniversary, we're celebrating Vegas-style, in honor of the ultimate party town where it all began.  When the brand first debuted, there was no better place to create a splash than in Las Vegas where showgirls and chic card dealers fell instantly in love with the game-changing assortment of shades.  For them, a beautiful manicure was a winning hand.

In celebration of this iconic birthday, the legendary essie color archive has been opened with a thrilling glimpse into the brand's dazzling history.  The result is a limited edition collection of six iconic shades.  With pearl, sheer, frosted and iridescent shades, each promises a sparkling night of thrills.  And, yes... the rumors are true: we're bringing back starry starry night! It wouldn't be a party without this coveted item, until now fetching hundreds of dollars on eBay.

Isn't it fun getting into a retro mood? As a nod to the iconic vintage sign of the Stardust Casino that lit up the Strip, this one-of-a- kind collection features gold starbursts embellished on essie's signature white cap.  It's a time to head to Vegas to party like its 1981!" according to the official press release.

Essie's Retro Revival 2016 Collection includes the following shades:

Life of the Party: a deep cranberry shimmer. Very highly pigmented.  Provided excellent coverage with even one coat.  From 2002. [pinot noir pearl]

Cabana Boy: a pearly very light gray with a faint lavender undertone. From 2005. [ultra-cool pearly white]

Sequin Sash: a semi-sheer shimmering nude with beige/pink undertones. From 2005. [sheer glittery bronze]

Bikini with a Martini: a semi-sheer frosted pink with an iridescence running through it. From 2006. [frosted iridescent pink]

Birthday Suit: a light beige creme. From 1981, part of the original 12 essie colors. [cheeky delicate nude]

Starry Starry Night: a jelly dark navy blue with small silver glitter specks in it. From 1985. The original formula is said to have contained diamond dust.  Unfortunately this newer version doesn't, but it's still gorgeous, and to the untrained eye, you would never in a million years be able to tell.  [twinkling midnight blue]

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

I don't think I have ever been more obsessed with a polish collection! I absolutely LOVE the idea of bringing back old classic coveted shades.  The notion is absolutely brilliant, and I sure hope this isn't the only time essie does it.  I also love the gold starbursts on the bottle, attention to detail is everything!

As far as the formula is concerned, they all painted on smoothly, evenly, and easily.  I didn't experience any issues like brush strokes, or pooling.

It's so hard for me to pick favorites, but if I absolutely have to, I would say: Starry Starry Night, Sequin Sash, and Cabana Boy are my top 3 must haves.

Keep in mind this collection is limited edition, so make sure to not wait and grab these colors before they're gone for good.

Essie's limited-edition Retro Revival 2016 Collection retails at $8.50 per bottle and will be available in January 2016 at http://www.essie.com/, fine salons, and beauty destinations nationwide.

The Starlight Collection by OPI is comprised of the following colors:

Love is in my Cards: a bright candy apple red creme. [this warm, romantic red is destined for me]

Ro-Man-ce on the Moon: a shimmering crimson red. [rendezvous in the glow of this lustrous, rich red]

Guys & Galaxies: a classic oxblood creme. [this maroon beauty makes my world go 'round]

I'm in the Moon for Love: a shimmering medium plum purple. [simply because I'm wearing this plum]

Cosmo with a Twist: a deep purple with shimmering blue particles in it. The color is so gorgeous in the light! [subtle sparkle adds depth to this purple]

Give Me Space: a medium blue with iridescent and holographic fine glitter particles in it. [night-sky blue with room to sparkle]

Center of the You-niverse: a blackened steel with silver and black glitter specks in it. [endless space black shimmer]

Super Star Status: a fine silver glitter with a chunky round gold glitter particles.  A very textured and multi-dimensional shade. [a spotlight- sterling silver and gold glitter]

I Drive a SuperNova: a platinum metallic silver. [hitch a ride on this lustrous sterling silver]

By the Light of the Moon: a platinum silver, similar to I Drive a SuperNova, however it featured various sized silver glitter particles. [silvery and sparkly... prepare to swoon]

Comet Closer: a light shimmering yellow gold that has a slight texture and depth to it. [may I take this warm, textured gold?]

Is this Star Taken?: a light shimmering yellow gold, similar to Comet Closer, however it also features fine holographic bar glitters. [iridescent icicles fly in this smooth gold]

Infrared-y to Glow: light pink v's & small iridescent glitter particles in a clear base. [strike up the glam with red confetti and glitter]

Let Your Love Shine: a shimmering deep cranberry red. [show it off in shimmery, red splendor!]

Ce-less-tial is More: a mix of light pink and light yellow gold glitter particles in a textured finish. [this pink super glitter shines with heavenly light]

Press * for Silver: a mix between a rose gold and a white gold in a metallic finish. [this warm, rosy silver really calls to me]

Two Wrongs Don't Make a Meteorite:  the same as Infrared-y to Glow, but with the addition of gunmetal diamond shaped glitter pieces. [this rosy, golden confetti is so right-on!]

No More Mr. Night Sky: a gorgeous metallic gunmetal. [an assertive, dark, shimmery gray]

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

What a fun and rather extensive collection!  What I really like about it is a lot of the shades can be layered a top one another to create really unique and spectacular looks.  I really admire how glitter and metallic focused this collection is.  I feel like OPI usually sticks to shimmers and creams, however, this collection definitely mixes things up, which I love, especially around the holiday times as we celebrate and dress festively.

I didn't experience any issues with any of the metallic chromes in this collection.  They all painted on smoothly and evenly, and didn't show any brush strokes whatsoever.

Also, I found the glitters to be densely packed with glitter.  All of the shades shown here are only two coats.  There was no need for a third coat.

This does happen to be a rather large collection, but here are some of my favorites and recommendations: Cosmo with a Twist, Give Me Space, Super Star Status, and Ce-less-tial is More.

The Starlight Collection from OPI is out and available now.
