Essie Winter 2016 Collection Review

Essie Winter 2016 Collection Review 0

"Break out the shag rug and pop some vinyl on the hi-fi, we're taking it back to London's grooviest era, the swinging sixties.  Total freedom, shabby chic fashion and soirees only the hippest of hip could attend, there was nothing quite like London in the 1960's.  So hop on the next double-decker bus, turn up the groovy tunes and get ready for some good times, introducing the essie winter 2016 collection, inspired by the London mod era.

Anything goes when you work your mojo in these six scintillating shades! A totally fab clique of color, essie winter 2016 collection nails the spirit of the times. From fascinating, multifaceted frosts to rich cremes and thrilling shimmers, this collection draws its colorful inspiration from nights out in the land of mod and epicenter of chic: London.

catch a double-decker bus to swinging sixties london. slip on your tallest heels because the party on a platform is ready to boa. relax and go with the flowy as you and your satin sister make the scene at the coolest clubs. what do you think about getting groovy, baby? oh behave!" according to the official press release.

the essie winter 2016 collection is comprised of the following shades-

Ready to boa: a rich shimmering burgundy with subtle brown undertones. [glistening bronzed mahogany]

Party of a platform: a deep garnet red cream. [london garnet red]

Oh behave!: a flamingo pink with slight shimmer. [minx peach frost]

Getting groovy: a warm shimmering yellow gold. [metallic gold palladium]

Satin Sister: a midnight teal peacock cream. [sleek ebony peacock blue]

Go with the flowy: an elephant gray with light shimmer in it. [cloudlike dove gray]

(all swatches shown here are of the gel formula, 2 coats, cured each for 30 seconds in an LED, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

This is an excellent collection.  Very beautiful an highly wearable colors that are sure to  be in demand this holiday season, but without the cheesy super glittery effect.  I found the formula to be quite awesome and very easy to work with.  There is no difference in the colors between the two formulas, the gel and polish, the colors are a perfect match.

My personal favorites are: Ready to boa and Go with the flowy.

essie nail polish retails for $9 (13.5 ml 0.46 fl oz) and the gel for around $17.50 (12.5 ml 0.42 fl oz).

CND Holiday 2016 Starstruck Collection Review

CND Holiday 2016 Starstruck Collection Review 0

"Celebrate the elegance of Hollywood with the new Holiday 2016 Starstruck collection from CND. Comprised of dazzling jewel tones that embody the glamour of the red carpet, the palette is precious and faceted.

“There was an element of danger in the Old Hollywood equation,” says CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold.  “This tension of grace, power and risk inspires the jeweled, short nail of the season, which pairs best with a little black dress or pristine winter-white cashmere. An ensemble this mesmerizing is sure to leave all of your fans starstruck.” according to the official press release.

The CND Starstruck Holiday 2016 Collection consists of the following glitter shades-

Blushing Topaz: a light pink glitter.

Garnet Glamour: a deep crimson red glitter.

Dark Diamonds: a black infused with silver glitter.

Emerald Lights: an emerald green glitter.

Alluring Amethyst: a lilac glitter.

Starry Sapphire: a mix of indigo blue and purple glitters.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, taken in outdoor natural sunlight).

I absolutely Love this collection.  CND does not make a lot of glitter shades in general, and around this time of year, with all of the holiday festivities, glitter is always a good thing to offer clients.  The colors are all totally wearable and gorgeous.

I didn't experience any issues with the application or the formulas.  I felt each shade was densely packed with glitter and provided a very even coverage.

My personal favorites are: Starry Sapphire, Blushing Topaz, and Dark Diamonds

Suggested salon price is $15.95 per .25 fl oz (7.3 mL) bottle

Essie Fall 2016 Collection Review

Essie Fall 2016 Collection Review 0

"There is a reason why the fashion-savvy flock to the number one street style destination in the world: Tokyo. Japan's electric capital boasts taste, flair and an uncanny aptitude for mixing fashion metaphors. If you're lucky enough to be there in the fall, you get the added picturesque pleasure of watching the autumn leaves change color against the magnificent gray backdrop of Mount Fuji in the distance. Get caught in a whirlwind of spectacular fall color fit for a Geisha, introducing essie fall 2016 collection.

From Ginza to Harajuku, it's impossible not to find yourself entranced in the mix of Tokyo's colorful surroundings! Inspired by essie Glorbal Color Designer, Rebecca Minkoff's, time in Tokyo, the essie fall 2016 collection captures the city's wild street style, electric cuisine and riot of autumnal colors.

The six shade palette of mesmerizing hues channels the changing fall foliage along with the modern and traditional sides of Tokyo's bustling city. Ranging from intense deeps to serene pastels, the essie fall 2016 collection bottles up the perfect balance of trendsetting color and classic looks.

now and zen all you need is a night on the town to maki me happy, tell the girls to kimono on over and go go geisha tonight. Tokyo is the city to forget playing koi- udon know me yet, but after a night of karaoke you'll never forget me." according to the official press release.

The essie fall 2016 collection is comprised of the following creamy colors-

Kimono Over: a deep purple grape cream. [inviting damson plum]

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals ‘Me’ Unearthed Collection review

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals ‘Me’ Unearthed Collection review 0

"Bringing to life a palette of modern earth tones that evoke the rich, diverse hues found in nature, Dermelect Cosmeceuticals' brand new 'ME' 2016 Unearthed Collection features six vibrant shades that marry the beauty of Mother Nature with the opulence of high fashion runway trends.

"The Unearthed Collection was inspired by the colors of the season, which are drawn from various elements of nature, including lava, copper, soil and bright foliage," said Elle, Celebrity Nail Tech and Dermelect Color Curator. "Our palette is meant to awaken a new appreciation for nature's unparalleled beauty by delivering modern earth tones that are equally varied in color and texture yet come together to create unexpected synergy."

Beyond importing gorgeous, long-lasting color on nails and toes, Dermelect's Unearthed Collection gives back to the earth it draws inspiration from by partnering with the non-profit Trees for the Future (trees.org). The brand has committed to plant one, new tree for every polish sold from the collection through April 2017 with a minimum donation of 10,000 trees planted.  Trees for the Future improves the livelihoods of impoverished farmers by revitalizing degraded lands and planting over 128 million trees over the world to help people break out of poverty and address the global environment.

"Trees for the Future is thrilled to partner with Dermelect," said John Leary, Executive Director of Trees for the Future. "We applaud Dermelect for their commitment to making this planet a more beautiful place." according to the official press release.

The Unearthed Collection is comprised of the following shades-

Diggin' You: a brown cream, with slight mauve/purple undertones. [creme burnt umber]

To the Core: a chrome orangey/copper. [russet copper]

Verdure: a dark mysterious jungle green cream. [lush hunter green]

What A Gem: a light pearlized pink. [shimmery pale quartz]

Nobody's Fool: a shiny yellow gold with very yellow undertones. [chrome marigold]

Magmatized: a deep cranberry crimson red cream. [fiery red]

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

After reading the story behind the collection I was not only quite moved, but I had a new found respect for the colors.  Everything suddenly made complete sense and told a story.  At first glance I felt the shades were highly autumnal and told a story, but after reading about the inspiration behind the collection and the charity aspect I was pleasantly pleased and surprised.

The colors are very gorgeous and take on a life of their own.  Some of the shades I think perhaps are more desirable than others, but needles to say, that doesn't mean someone out there might have a huge love and penchant for copper polish.

I found all the colors painted on smoothly and evenly, including Nobody's Fool, which I anticipated to be quite streaky; the nature of the beast.

My personal favorites include: Diggin' You and What A Gem.

The Polishes retail for $14 each [11 ml or .4 fl oz], or $29 as a set, and are available now on http://dermelect.com/

CND Fall 2016 Craft Culture Collection Review

CND Fall 2016 Craft Culture Collection Review 0

"Embrace the beauty in raw imperfections, earthly colors and weathered textures with the new Fall 2016 Craft Culture collection from CND. Hand- crafted artistry inspires a rich, one-of-a-kind palette that reflect authenticity, warmth and ruggedness.

"This season, smoky red oranges, deep reds and weathered blues capture the unique character of custom made goods. These rustic tones give the Craft Culture collection a rich depth for timeless Fall style," said CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold. "The Fall 2016 nail silhouette is short and tight with industrial finishes, evoking the heritage of artisanal craftsmanship and honoring the enduring quality of an artisan's work." according to the official press release.

The Fall 2016 Craft Culture Shellac colors include-

Brick Knit: a terracotta brick cream.

Patina Buckle: a light raspberry with a sage green iridescent shimmer running through it.

Denim Patch: a dusty medium blue creme.

Oxblood: a deep dark blood red creme.

Hand Fired: a sparkling orangey red.

Leather Satchel: a shimmering medium tanned brown.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, cured each in an LED light for 1 minute, and are taken outdoors in natural sunlight).

Vinylux- (the Vinylux colors are the same as the Shellac accept for the following two additional colors)

Fern Flannel: a shimmering deep oceanic medium blue.

Brass Button: a glimmering yellow gold.

Additives- (comes in a set, and includes all 5 items)

Boho Beads: small round clear beads.

Russet Rage: a slightly chunky brick/rose gold glitter.

Tainted Gold: a reflective pink/purple shimmer (when burnished over black base, as shown here).

Dungarees: a shimmering deep navy blue (when burnished over black base, as shown here).

Polished Peridot: a gilded deep green (also burnished over black, as shown here).

Overall I am really impressed with this collection.  I think it speaks very well to the Fall season and weather, and will serve as a nice transition as the weather starts to cool down.  The colors are all highly wearable. I found the formulas to be all around excellent, not experiencing any issues whatsoever.

Some of my personal favorites include: Oxblood, Denim Patch, and Patina Buckle

I also really enjoy playing around and getting creative with the Additives.  I know the chrome trend is still going strong, so I wanted to play around with three of the pigments included in this Additves kit- Tainted Gold, Polished Peridot, and Dungarees.  I applied a black base, and with a non-wipe gel top coat, I burnished the Additives into the cured polish.  I thought the results were pretty great!

Shellac retails for $15.95 per 7.3 mL (.25 fl oz), Vinylux retails for $10.50 per 15 mL (.5 fl oz), and the Additives Collection is sold in a set retailing for $29.75.

Introducing Kokoist

Introducing Kokoist 0

I am very excited to introduce you all to one of Japan's best selling gel companies- Kokoist. Kokoist is one of the primary gel leaders in revolutionary high quality products and after playing around with a few of them, I can honestly say I am obsessed!

Forget gel polish, soak off gel all the way.  The potted white and black gels that I tried were hands down the best quality I have ever tried.  They were so incredibly well pigmented, my mind is still blown.  A one coat wonder black! I can't believe it, but its true folks- Maxi Black.  And the same goes for the white, Bluey White, so incredibly well pigmented.  They both painted on so smoothly, effortlessly like butter, self leveling to a beautiful finish. The potted gels retail for around $17.

The Gem Gels! Talk about a major game changer, and huge innovation.  Kokoist partnered with Kyocera in Kyoto to manufacture and synthesize "kyoto opal", "cultivated with a quartz-grain structure identical to that of naturally occurring opal." This magical stuff is sooooo fun to play and experiment with.  Gently fold it from the bottom up, do not stir the product, for best results and to maximize the opal particle's brilliance. It is incredibly easy to work with, and self leveled nicely.  I have the gem gel shown here in two shades, in White and Garnet, however it comes in a total of 5 colors, and they retail for around $20.

I highly recommend you give this brand a try. There is clearly a reason why they are one of the best sellers in Japan.

I am just grateful we can finally now have their products stateside.

CND Summer 2016 Flirtation Collection Review

CND Summer 2016 Flirtation Collection Review 0

"There's an electricity of unspoken attraction in the air for Summer 2016. Evoke a subtle, sensual femininity with the new Flirtation Collection from CND. A palette of soft yet bright shades teases at the imagination and makes this collection equal parts coy, confident, and playful.

"This season, sweet, creamy pastels are inspired by modern lace and embroidery for a delicate and refined glamour," says Jan Arnold. "The summer nail is a slim oval glazed with tender shades of coral and lilac, blushed with the spark of deepening allure. Flirtation's summer code allows you to be irresistible," according to the press release.

The Summer 2016 Flirtation Collection consists of the following Shellac/Vinylux shades-

Be Demure: a light cotton candy pink cream.

Pink Pursuit: a dusty rose pink cream.

Honey Darlin': a soft creamy buttery yellow.

Lavender Lace: a pale lavender with a fine silver shimmer running through it.

Aqua-intance: an aqua blue cream.

Sparks Fly: a semi-sheer watermelon glitter. In Vinylux the comparable shade is Desert Poppy.

and the following two shades are just part of the Vinylux Collection-

Date Night: a cobalt blue cream.  Incredibly pigmented. A one coat wonder!

Skin Tease: a creamy beige nude. In the bottle there appears to be a semi faint shimmer, but it doesn't really come through once painted on the nail.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural sunlight).

This is an awesome and highly wearable collection.  I feel CND stepped out of their comfort zone this season and delivered some out-there shades that are subdued and super gorgeous. There are shimmers, a glitter, and brights.

I'm in love with both Date Night and Skin Tease, and WISH they also came in Shellac. The pigmentation of Date Night was out of this world insane amazing. And I am very grateful CND is making more nudes, like Skin Tease, because clients always request nudes, and in my opinion, you can never offer too many.

My personal favorites from the Flirtation Collection include- Date Night, Lavender Lace, and Aqua-intance

Shellac retails for $15.95 per 7.3 mL (.25 fl oz) bottle, and Vinylux retails for $10.50 per 15 mL (.5 fl oz) bottle.

Introducing Aora Nails!

Introducing Aora Nails! 0

I am so over the moon excited to introduce you all to Aora Nails! It's a revolutionary product line that is blowing the minds of nail technicians and nail art fans alike around the world.

I duo-chrome powder pigment in a small orbital sphere creates an almost mirror like chromatic finish simply by rubbing it in- too good true be true, I know, but it's not, it's totally legit.

I found the product really easy to use and work with.  To burnish the pigment onto a nail you can use either your finger, a disposable eye shadow brush, or a silicon applicator tool.  I prefer the silicon tool personally.  Choose whichever base color you'd like, but I personally recommend doing this over a black base. And literally all you do is rub a tiny tiny amount of the powder into a cured layer of the Base Gel. I rubbed pretty vigorously, and got remarkable results. Seal with Top Gel and your good to go.

The results are simply out of this world.

The color I have on hear to share with you all is A1, and I would have to describe it as a purple/green duo-chrome, that also shifts to shades of blue under certain light. The color is insanely gorgeous and I get constant complements on it everywhere I go.

The Aora Polarized pigments are sold in a set, not featured here, which includes 6 shades, 7 mL bottles of the Base and Top gel, and a silicon applicator tool. The set retails for around $120.

I'm aware the price might seem a bit steep, but let me assure you clients are going to go bananas for this effect.  Not only that, but you use such a tiny amount, the set will definitely last you a very long time and get you through hundreds of services easily.

I know there are many knock offs going around out there on the internet, with imitations made in China popping up all over eBay, Amazon, and the like. But do not be fooled people, This Aora is truly exceptional and delivers sensational results.  I highly highly recommend it.

I am absolutely in LOVE with this latest line from Essie.  When I was first exposed to it back in April at the Nail Pro Pasadena trade show I was super impressed- the bottle, the packaging, the bristles, the brush, the pigmentation, almost everything about it.

I don't think I have ever used a polish that painted on more smoothly, evenly, or as easily as this does.  The contoured brush bristles make painting near the cuticle area a dream come true.  The revolutionary swirl design on the brush helps prevent polish dripage, which can be a huge bummer not to mention a complete mess.

The fact that the polish dries faster than conventional polishes is a huge plus not only for me as a tech, but more importantly for my clients who impatiently wait for their nails to dry.  And if I am working on a set, this product line is an absolute dream come true.

The color offerings are perfect too.  Not too many colors, but just enough to please everyone's taste and preferences.

The top coat is smooth, and pleasantly plump.

One of my biggest concerns was storage.  I was worried that due to the beautiful shape of the bottles, I would have issues storing the polishes on my nail polish wall racks.  Need not fear.  The bottles fit perfectly, and aligned very beautifully at an elegant angle.

Some of my personal favorites include: Make the Cut, Caviar Bar, and Rock the Runway

essie's gel couture nail polish retails at $11.50 per bottle and will be available at http://www.essie.com/gel-couture, fine salons and beauty destinations nationwide.
