CND Spring 2016 Art Vandal Collection Review

CND Spring 2016 Art Vandal Collection Review 0

"Spring 2016 will reinterpret the classics for a new masterpiece of self-expression. Leave your mark with originality, irreverence, and expressiveness with the new Art Vandal collection from CND.

“This season, bright strokes of color disrupt the familiar as art is redesigned and repurposed,” says CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold. “Nails will be shaped into short, soft, squared canvases that evoke extraordinary color while articulating exquisitely abstract pattern and design. The ultimate Art Vandal is simply complex with organized clutter.” according to the official press release.

I've got all three parts of the Art Vandal Collection to share with you all.

First up, the Shellac shades-

Mauve Maverick: a soft pink peony cream.

Art Basil: a bright green that has slight teal undertones.  Has a subtle gold shimmer running through it.

Untitled Bronze: a glistening rosey coppery bronze.

Magenta Mischief: a deep shimmering magenta, that has slight purple undertones.

Digi-teal: a bold bright blue cream. Almost an aqua blue.

Future Fuchsia: a neon Barbie pink with shimmer running through it.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, cured each for 30 seconds in an LED light, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

Shellac retails for $15.95 per 7.3 mL (.25 fl oz) bottle.

With regards to Vinylux, most of the shades are the same color as the Shellac counterparts, except for the following which are exclusively Vinylux-

Irreverent Rose: a rich dusty rose pink cream.

Tutti Frutti: a neon Barbie pink with shimmer running through it.  This I believe is the lacquer version of Shellac: Future Fuchsia. They are very similar colors, if not identical.

Sienna Scribble: a creamy pearlized golden beige.  A rather difficult color to describe, but gorgeous nonetheless.

(the swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural light).

Vinylux retails for $10.50 per 15 mL (.5 fl oz) bottle.

And last but not least, the Additives collection-

Exhibition (glitter): a glistening fine almost white glitter.  Over white it looks like magical snow.  Over black it has a chunky gunmetal glitter appearance.

Twinkle Pink (glitter): a glistening bright pink glitter.  Over white it retains its bright bold pinkness, but when applied over black, it becomes a shimmering blue/purple glitter.

Confetti Kiss (glitter): a chunky matte white hexagonal glitter.  Pretty straight forward on this one.

Cobalt Crush (pigment effect): a fine blue/purple shimmer powder.  Over white its a beautiful purple/blue.  When applied over black, it becomes a glistening deep purple.

Lavender Whispers (pigment effect): an iridescent light lavender pigment powder.  When applied over white it maintains it's proper color, but when applied over black it becomes like a gorgeous green/gray shimmering shade.

(for the Additives, I showed how they would look on both white and black shades as a base).

The Additives collection retails for $29.75 for the set.

This is a super fun collection.  I absolutely Love the names.  To me these are some of the most creative/ tongue-and-cheek names CND has come out with yet!

These are gorgeous shades to help us all transition into the new warmer weather.  Bold, bright, flirty colors reign supreme for sure.  There are a few different finishes too which I enjoy, ranging from solid creams to iridescent shimmers.

As far as the formulas are concerned I didn't experience any issues whatsoever.  I found both the Shellac and Vinylux to be very well pigmented, providing complete coverage in two coats.

If I had to pick favorites, they'd include: Future Fuchsia, Art Basil, Untitled Bronze, and Sienna Scrible.

Morgan Taylor Botanical Awakenings Spring 2016 Collection Review

Morgan Taylor Botanical Awakenings Spring 2016 Collection Review 0

"Spring into the season with fresh fingertips! Introducing a breathtaking arrangement of six stunning shades for Morgan Taylor’s Spring 2016 collection, Botanical Awakenings. With a lively, light coral, classic taupe, radiant hot red and more, this bouquet of pink shades is budding with personality fit for any flower child.

“We were inspired by soft pinks, rich reds and creamy neutrals for this romantic and sophisticated collection,” says CEO and Founder of Morgan Taylor, Danny Haile. “Each shade is reminiscent of a budding and chic garden. From irresistible, whimsical pinks to warm crème shades, every polish is the perfect spring accessory.”

The Botanical Awakenings Collection is comprised of the following colors-

Rose-y Cheeks: a bright and bold pink with a subtle iridescent shimmer running through it. [Bubblegum pink pearl]

I Or-chid You Not: a greige (grey/beige) cream.  [Dark taupe crème]

Warm Up the Car-nation: a bright raspberry magenta shimmer. Highly pigmented. [Bright magenta pearl]

Don’t Pansy Around: a hot pink magenta cream. Highly pigmented.  [Hot pink crème]

What’s Your Poinsettia?: a dark cranberry red shimmer. Also highly pigmented [Crimson red pearl]

Prim-rose and Proper: a light creamy nude. [Light taupe crème]

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are taken outdoors in natural sunlight).

I think this is a beautiful collection to welcome the coming spring season.  The colors are all definitely wearable, and I really like the fact they're inspired by flowers, which couldn't be more apropos for Spring! 😉

I was most impressed by the formula.  A lot of the shades, about half of them, were very highly pigmented and provided excellent coverage in even a single coat.  I love a well pigmented polish.

I found the shades all painted on smoothly and evenly, without causing any brush strokes or issues of any kind.

My personal favorites from the collection include: Rose-y Cheeks, I Or-chid You Not, and Prim-rose and Proper.

The Botanical Awakenings Collection will be available for a limited time at select salons nationwide and at MorganTaylorLacquer.com. The suggested retail price for the lacquers are $8.50 each.

Introducing Holographic gel from Color Club

Introducing Holographic gel from Color Club 0

I hope everyone has had a great week so far.

I am so beyond excited to introduce a revolutionary product from Color Club- Holographic Gel Polish.  No other brands in the US market have made a holographic gel polish, and I am so grateful Color Club has done so, and man is it perfection.

The Color Club Holographic's I have to share with you here include-

Harp On It: a holographic silver.

Eternal Beauty: a holographic purple.

Blue Heaven: a holographic icy blue.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, cured each for 30 seconds in an LED light, and are taken outdoors in natural sunlight).

With the introduction of their gel polish line, Color Club has done a few things differently.  All of their gel polishes are packaged in a duo pack, meaning you get both the gel polish color and its comparable nail lacquer, so for customers who want matching toes this is perfect! Also, Color Club paints the cap on the gel polish bottles, so not only do you know exactly what color is inside the bottle, but you can locate the color very easily, especially if you store it in a drawer.

I am absolutely OBSESSED with these.  They are so beyond cool and very easy to use.  I was under the impression I would have to wait a little bit to let the gel polish settle before curing it in order to achieve a strong holographic effect, but that was not the case.  After painting it on, I was able to cure it essentially right away and still had an amazing holographic effect.

I was very impressed with the quality.  The gel polish applied very smoothly and evenly, without any brush strokes, or any problems.

The Color Club Holographic duo packs retail for $29.95 each, and contain 15 mL (0.5 fl oz) bottles of both the gel polish and nail lacquer.

I highly recommend you give these a try! Your customers will go bananas for them! I promise 🙂

VETRO Leaf Gel Polish Review

VETRO Leaf Gel Polish Review 0

I am so beyond excited to introduce you all to the latest product from renowned Japanese brand Vetro- their famous "leaf" gels now come in a bottle formula, as opposed to the traditional pot.

If you haven't yet heard of Vetro please listen up.  Vetro is one of the biggest and best gel brands and it's from Japan.  Try it once and you will see exactly what I mean.  The quality, the consistency, the formula, the application, everything with regards to this product is absolutely mind blowingly awesome and amazing.  I have tried a Lot of different gel brands out their on the market, as you might have seen on this blog, and to be quite frank, none of them even come close.

The three bottled Vetro leaf gels I have to share with you all here are-

Rose Leaf (966): the perfect 14 kt rose gold chunky glitter.  This is by far the best rose gold color I have come across.  All the other ones on the market currently are either too bronze or copper in tone, but this one is absolutely divine.

Gold Leaf (272): a 14 kt gold yellow chunky glitter.

Silver Leaf (271): a sterling silver chunky glitter.

(all swatches shown here are 1 coat, cured in an LED light for 30 seconds, and topped with a top coat. All swatches are taken outdoors in natural light).

I am so obsessed with these!!

It's hard to put into words even exactly what they are.  I don't feel glitter is the proper word to describe them.  Instead, its like chunky flecks of actual gold.  It sounds odd, but trust me, it's so stunning in person.

Can we please talk about the fact that these are all 1 Coat Wonders! I have not yet come across any one coat wonders within the gel world.  They always require two to three coats to reach full opacity.  Each of these shades, however, are so densely packed that with one nice coat you have complete coverage.  No need to apply a  base color of the same shade, there will literally be no natural nail bed showing through; that's how amazing this stuff is.

One coat is all it takes for full coverage.  This saves both tremendous time and money, two of my favorite things to save ;).

The gel cures super fast, 20 seconds in an LED light, and 60 seconds in a traditional UV lamp.

The gel painted on so smoothly and evenly, and did not require any sort of particular dabbing motion during application, like some other brands require.

I highly recommend you give these bad boys a try. You and your clients will Love them.

They sell for $15 per 4 ml (9.13 fl oz) bottle.

Introducing Kiara Sky Gel Polish

Introducing Kiara Sky Gel Polish 0

I hope you've all had a great week so far.

I am very excited to introduce a really cool and innovative gel company- Kiara Sky

Fall in love with Kiara Sky® Soak-off Gel Polish, a patent-pending formula that assures long lasting wear, high-gloss shine that resists fading and color changes over time. The only gel polish in the market that can be applied as a three or two-step system. Yes, you heard it right base coat application is completely optional.  Finally every woman has a choice! Available in 101 trendsetting colors and matching nail lacquers.  LED and UV light compatible.  Size:  15 ml.  Made in the USA," according to their website.

In addition to their regular line of gels, they also have a selection of color changing shades. "Introducing Kiara Sky’s mood changing gel polish collection, OMBRE! This glossy and long-lasting temperature active gel polish changes color as your body temperature and mood changes. Have an Enchanted-soft color in warm temperature and a vibrant Wicked shade in cooler temperature. With 33 mood-changing colors, you wont be disappointed with Kiara Sky’s new OMBRE collection."

I've got a few shades from both lines to share with you all.

High Mintenance: a mint apple green creme. [When your spirits are as high as your standards there’s only one way to go…straight to the top. Let this cool mint pastel take you there and make them stare!]

Out on the Town: a fine purple glitter.  Requires about three to four coats for complete coverage. Could also be used to make an excellent gradation design. [A night out doesn’t start until you show up…wearing shimmering purple glitter to your fingertips! Let your inner party animal go wild!]

And from their color changing Ombre collection-

Pumpkin Carriage: a bright peach cream.  When warm, a flamingo pink.  The shimmer in it is incredibly fine and virtually undetectable. [Medium orange transitions to salmon pink from just the warmth of your hands.]

Fairy Dust: a vivid magenta cream.   When warm, a hot pink. [Bubblegum pink transitions from dark to light from just the warmth of your hands.]

Sour Apple: a bright turquoise cream.  When warm, a light mint. [Regal teal transitions to a minty green from just the warmth of your hands.]

Abracadabra: a bold blue cream. When warm, a darker royal blue. [Glossy purple transitions to peacock blue from just the warmth of your hands.]

(all swatches shown here are 2 coats, unless specifically stated, and are cured for 30 seconds each in an LED lamp.)

I am really impressed with this brand.  I really enjoyed working with the product.  I found the gel to be highly pigmented, much more so than most gel polish brands on the market.

The fact that a base coat is optional with this brand is totally awesome and a huge time saver.  Saved time means you can take more clients on in your salon.  More clients means more money. It's a win win.

The color changing effect was really awesome and magical.

If you haven't yet tried out this brand, I highly recommend it.

The gel polishes retail for $13-$15 each per 15 mL (0.5 fl oz) bottle.

For more information on Kiara Sky or to purchase online, check out: http://www.kiarasky.com/

Jin Soon Polish Review

Jin Soon Polish Review 0

I am very excited to introduce to my readers JINSoon.  For those who aren't familiar, Jin Soon Choi is a Korean born popular celebrity manicurist based in New York City.  Her eponomous polish line launched in 2012 to rave reviews, and now I see why.

The shades featured here include-

Auspicious: a light grey creme, with a very subtle lavender undertone.

Nostalgia: a perfect creamy nude.

Nocturne: a blackened gunmetal in a metallic finish.

Chamonix: a black that dries to a textured "leather-like" finish.

(all swatches shown here are two coats, and are photographed outdoors in natural sunlight).

I am absolutely in LOVE with this line, and there are a few reasons why.

First off, I love the packaging. It's very unique and different from whats out there on the market.  It's sleek and elegant, but most importantly it's not bulky; this is super important for me, for I'm always performing manicures on sets, and when polishes are packaged in too large of bottles I can't travel with as many.  But these small bad boys fit beautifully in both my travel kit, and in my hand when using them to paint.

I found formula to be quite great and highly pigmented. I really liked the brush.  I found it very easy to work with.  Each of the shades I tried painted on smoothly, effortlessly, evenly, and with zero brush strokes.  The polishes all happen to be 5 free as well (formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin, and camphor), which is also a great thing- the less toxic chemicals the better.

If you haven't yet tried out this brand I highly recommend you do so.

JINSoon nail polishes retail for $18 per 0.37 fl oz (11 mL) bottle.

For more information on JINSoon or to purchase online, check them out here: http://www.jinsoon.com/

CHANEL Sunrise Trip 683 Review

CHANEL Sunrise Trip 683 Review 0

Leave it to the folks at CHANEL to introduce a single color for the Spring Summer 2016 season! Only they could do this, and boy am I ever obsessed.

The notion that companies introduce upwards of 18 colors in a single collection I find silly and unnecessary.  How many shades of bright cherry red creme do we honestly need? CHANEL typically introduces 3 shades in a season's collection, however, they're starting off this year with a bang by focusing on a single color- Sunrise Trip #683.

Sunrise Trip is quite magical and a chameleon of sorts.  It is a purple/blue hybrid that sort of changes depending on the light's reflection.  It is a jelly finish, which I personally Love, and is quite unique for CHANEL polish.  Typically CHANEL polish comes in a creme or pearlized finish, but this glass-like jelly formula I absolutely adore.  It painted on smoothly and evenly, with absolutely no visible brush strokes or streaking.

Very highly pigmented, in a single coat there is tremendous coverage.  With two coats you have complete coverage.

I love the shade, I find it highly unique, and greatly recommend you pick it up before its too late.

Le Vernis CHANEL in Sunrise Trip 683 is available now, and retails for $28 per 0.4 fl oz (13 ml) bottle.

For more information on CHANEL or to purchase, check them out online: http://www.chanel.com/
